Dates & jockeys of important wins: 1886 2000 Guineas, George Barrett 1886 Derby, Frederick Archer 1886 St Leger, Frederick Archer 1886 Champion Stakes, Frederick Archer 1887 Hardwicke Stakes, Tom Cannon Ormonde was unbeaten in 16 races over 3 seasons and is cited as the best colt of the 19th century. After his successful 3 year old season he won the Rous Memorial Stakes, the Hardwicke Stakes and the Imperial Gold Cup, before retiring to stud. Ormonde stood only two seasons in England, siring a good horse in Orme. His owner accepted an offer of £12,000 and he went to Argentina, and then to the USA, but in neither country was he a great success.
