After his successful 3 year old season he won the Rous Memorial Stakes, the Hardwicke Stakes and the Imperial Gold Cup, before retiring to stud. Ormonde stood only two seasons in England, siring a good horse in Orme. His owner accepted an offer of £12,000 and he went to Argentina, and then to the USA, but in neither country was he a great success.
